OF PAST BLESSINGS & NEW BEGINNINGS:
A New Year’s Letter From Tahanan Books

January 4, 2016 by

“Out with the old, in with the new.”

These are words we often hear as soon as we turn the calendar page to the month of January. But here at Tahanan Books, we strive to create timeless, evergreen titles…or, at the very least, books that will be savored for a good long time.

Looking back at 2015, we celebrated the birthdays of five wonderful books: 1. Award-winning writer Mailin Paterno emerged from a 15-year publishing hiatus to give us the delightful Mang Andoy’s Signs, marvelously illustrated by Isabel Roxas. 2. Amy Capelle and Auri Yambao’s nostalgia-infused From Manila with Love makes for a perfect gift for balikbayan families. 3. Philippine Proverbsculled from vernacular languages by bestselling author Neni Sta. Romana-Cruz, encapsulates age-old Pinoy wisdom in a charming compendium. 4. Nic Tiongson and Jun Dayao’s sumptuous Alpabetong Filipino is now available in a portable ABC board book edition. 5. For lovers of Pinoy puns, we came out with Elbert Or’s The Return of the Comebackrounding out a wildly successful four-book series.

2015 titles

Looking ahead, 2016 promises to be a banner year for Philippine history with the anticipated publication of A LOLO-ng Time Ago, the first installment in Bathala Na Productions’s “Halo-Halo Histories” series, coupled with Charisse Tugade and Elijah Tan’s Awesome Ancient Philippines for archaelogy buffs. Legendary author/artist Jomike Tejido tickles the funny bone with Araw ng Kabaligtaran, his droll companion volume to Ma-me-mi-mu-mu. More pretty board books are chugging down the pipe line, with reissues of such Tahanan classics as A First Look At Flora & Fauna and Nelson Agustin’s A for Adobo. And watch for Dindo Llana’s Pinoy Planner & Almanac, soon to hit the stands as a retro-modern, user-friendly engagement planner.

And that’s not all. In 2017, join us as we celebrate 20 YEARS of delighting Filipino families.

Is your child growing up with Tahanan Books?

What better time than now to come home to Tahanan, the place where the love of reading— and an appreciation of all things meaningfully Filipino—begins!

Hanggang sa muli,
