Get To Know Us
Ilaw ng Tahanan Publishing, Inc. is a Filipino corporation dedicated to creating quality children's books for Filipino families as well as supplementary curriculum materials for schools and libraries. Formerly known as Tahanan Pacific, Inc., it is known in retail markets as Tahanan Books for Young Readers. Named for the Filipino word for home, where the love of reading begins, Tahanan Books aims to foster and nurture a young person's passion for learning with books that celebrate Philippine culture and history.
Incorporated in 1991, Tahanan debuted with its first set of children's titles in 1992 at the Philippine Bookfair and is now on its 18th year of operation. Renowned for its high quality and thoughtful attention to both text and art, Tahanan is a seven-time winner of the National Book Award for Children's Literature. It has also collected the Ceres Alabado Award for Outstanding Children's Literature as well as a number of Gintong Aklat awards. Over the last 18 years Tahanan has produced an impressive array of over a hundred titles ranging from picture books to reference titles to gift books. Consisting of an eclectic mix of fiction and nonfiction, Tahanan's publist showcases among its titles folk tale anthologies, biographies of great Filipinos, reference and science books, bilingual collections of the Greek classics and fairy tales, not to mention a wildly popular line of Pinoy pop culture books.
In addition to publishing its own books, Tahanan has packaged publications for third parties. It produced for UNICEF a ten picture-book series on the rights of the child; a career series for young people for Museo Pambata Foundation, Inc.; and in 2009 a picture book for the Asia Rice Foundation.
Under its new flagship name, Ilaw ng Tahanan, a gentle term known by most Filipinos to mean 'mother' (the light and life of the home)—Tahanan remains passionately committed to creating world-class Filipiniana books for today's young people.
