About Us

Tahanan is the Tagalog word for "home", where the love of learning and reading begins.

Tahanan Books for Young Readers specializes in quality children’s books for the Filipino family and supplementary curriculum materials for schools and libraries.

Founded in 1991, Tahanan has published over a hundred titles ranging from Philippine folk tales to science books to pop culture gift books. Renowned for its high quality and thoughtful attention to detail, Tahanan is an eight-time winner of the National Book Award for Children’s Literature.

Named for the Tagalog word “home,” where the love of learning and reading begins, Tahanan aims to foster and nurture a young person’s passion for learning with books that celebrate Philippine culture and history.

Since it debuted with six Great Lives biographies of Filipino heroes at the Manila International Book Fair in 1992, Tahanan Books celebrates its twenty years this year with a renewed commitment to its mission and passion: creating lasting books that will turn young people into lifelong readers.
